HOWLITE.

White Howlite crystal polished palm stone with a white background and dark grey lines

Take a deep breath. Unclench your jaw. If this resonated with you then Howlite could be your crystal. Howlite is one of the best anti-anxiety crystals, it helps to calm overthinking, balance emotions, reduce triggers, and puts a fire blanket over those flames of anger. By soothing our soul a little it allows new ideas to creep into our subconscious, it nudges us gently to achieve our long-held ambitions and become the healed version of ourselves. Howlite is a great crystal for those who need to find some patience, just because it isn’t happening right now doesn’t mean the progress isn’t happening. For those wishing to take things to the next level and gather some interdimensional wisdom then this crystal should be meditated with placed in the Crown Chakra position.

Anger Management

Howlite is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide which generally forms in lumpy nodules. This is the material that is then cut and shaped into pocket stones, beads, palm stones, towers, elephants, etc which are white in colour with grey veins running through them. There are some rare small crystal formations of Howlite, but that's a needle in a haystack kind of shit.

In 1868 Henry How discovered Howlite in Hants County, Nova Scotia. The discovery of Howlite in nodule form was made in a Gypsum mine near the small community of Windsor. It initially had a very mineralogical name, “silico-boro-calcite” but soon after it was renamed to honour Henry How and it became Howlite. Howlite is now found in many locations around the world such as Russia, Mexico, and Turkey, however, Windsor, Nova Scotia remains its type locality.

Howlite is often dyed turquoise, blue, yellow, basically any colour you can think of. Howlite dyed a blue-turquoise colour is called Turquenite. Ethical retailers will name it as such and tell you that it is dyed Howlite. Unethical sellers will claim it is the much more expensive stone Turquoise. Buyer’s Guide to Howlite

Private Buyers

If you are buying Howlite for its metaphysical properties then a pocket stone that you can keep with you or a palm stone which you can meditate with work really well. Often crystal bracelets make excellent spiritual companions however, Howlite is porous so it may get “dirty” or absorb stains and colours with prolonged exposure. You know when you get new dark denim jeans and the colour rubs off onto other fabrics, would that stain Howlite, possibly? I don’t know. Proceed with caution. If anyone has experience with this - please let me know!

Howlite is often carved into large spheres and towers which make excellent interior pieces. They look stylish in a minimalist home and its white colour gives very clean, fresh vibes. Perfect to reduce the tension in a space.

Howlite is relatively fragile so don’t knock it about too much, it can’t take a knock like Quartz can.

Specimen collectors who are looking for prismatic crystallized Howlite will need to look at specialist vendors, usually in the US. The pieces will be small, perhaps only 1-2cm and either come from the Sierra Pelona Mountains in California or Iona on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. Retail Buyers

If you own a retail store or a webstore then Howlite is a great addition to your collection. It looks good and people really love its anti-anxiety and patient metaphysical vibes. The easiest formats are tumbles or palmstones. You can also source it in raw chunks which also are great for people who don’t like the polished aesthetic.

If your customers like carved animals or deities then Howlite shows off carving details exceptionally well. For those of you who are stocking for larger interior pieces then XL spheres or towers look amazing although these will take longer to sell than the smaller items.

You will do well with elasticated Howlite bracelets however, warn customers about Howlite's porous nature, maybe don’t shower or swim with it on, avoid staining etc.

Crystal Care: Howlite can be cleaned with cool soapy water, with a soft cloth, a soft make-up brush, or a compressed air duster. Do not soak Howlite for more than a few minutes as the crystal can degrade in water. Howlite is porous so it will stain if exposed to any colouring or dye that can transfer to it.
