Mangano Calcite is the trade name given to Manganese-bearing Calcite, the Manganese creates its distinctive milky pink colouring. It forms in a variety of fancy-looking habitats such as Dog Tooth, Blades, and Pagoda (or Nailhead). Pagoda is a name often used in China to describe what is commonly known as Nailhead. The majority of the Mangano Calcite you will see forms in a massive habitat which is then used for carving into tumbles, towers, skulls, and other shapes.

Manganese-bearing Calcite can be found worldwide with notable specimens found in South Africa, Romania, Bulgaria, Mexico, and the US. Much of the material on the market today comes from Peru, Madagascar, and China. Mangano Calcite is UV reactive and will fluoresce a beautiful bright magenta-pink when you shine a UV lamp on it, in a darkened room.

Mangano Calcite is relatively expensive on the Calcite spectrum, especially those forming naturally into cool shapes. If you are buying Mangano Calcite for its spiritual or metaphysical properties then purpose will determine the shape. If you would like to carry it with you to help boost your self-confidence or to cope with grief then a simple pocket/bra stone tumble makes a great choice. If your spiritual plans include heart-opening meditations or inner child work then I would recommend a palm stone. Towers make great centrepieces for crystal grids to transmit messages or requests to the universe and skulls are great spiritual companions (when you find the right one). A large Mangano Calcite sphere works great in a home environment to radiate loving and peaceful vibes. Mangano Calcite is a great alternative to Rose Quartz for that unconditional love energy but a dash more soothing. You can sometimes also buy XL large raw chunks, these are good for crystal elixir or scattering throughout a space.

If you are buying Mangano Calcite as a mineral collector then you may wish to focus on the variety of habitats and locations. Choose a form you like such as Dog Tooth or Nailhead and try to find an ideal example of that shape for your collection. Look for great colour, little damage, and that stands/displays well. There are some beautiful, ethically mined pieces, from Europe that can be found online or with specialist dealers. If you want a large piece with a Pagoda shape then there are a good amount still to be found from the dealers in China who operate via Instagram and TikTok (always pay with PayPal to protect your order).

As Mangano Calcite is softer than say Quartz, it is important to check any pieces that you buy for damage.

Retail Buyers

Mangano Calcite is generally a popular pink crystal for retailers. Small pieces sell well especially tumbles and raw chunks. Larger raw chucks also sell well as they are cheaper per Kg than polished shapes. Once you get into the realms of large towers and spheres sales slow down due to the cost. Mangano Calcite can have a fantastic milky pink colour so you should always look for the best colour with some depth to it, and a high-shine polish when you are buying carved shapes.

For a small online or retail spiritual store I would recommend Mangano Calcite tumbles, palm stones, and raw chunks. Only specialist mineral stores need to go down the natural shape route or if you have a thriving Instagram or TikTok Live show community to sell to.
