MOLDAVITE.
The Transformer
Moldavite has a fizzy, focused energy that forces you through transformation whether you like it or not. Moldavite can give you spine tingles and feels a bit hot and heavy when handling it. It is said that Moldavite heightens your psychic intuition, connecting to your Heart Chakra and bringing to bear your true heart's desires - so be careful what you request of it. Metaphysically, Moldavite is generally used for good luck, psychic protection, manifesting, and life-changing transformations.
Warning! Don’t sleep with Moldavite! Its frequency is way too intense.
Moldavite is an olive-green vitreous silica (natural glass) tektite that was formed by a meteorite impact about 15 million years ago that struck down in Bavaria, Germany, creating what we now know as the Nördlinger Ries crater. The impact threw terrestrial debris, including sand and earth, up into the atmosphere. As material fell back down to Earth, it was superheated and then rapidly cooled, creating the pitted and pock-marked surface patterns that are common on Moldavite. These special green ‘tektites’ landed over a vast region spanning Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Most Moldovite is sourced from the Czech Republic - which is sometimes referred to by its old name of Bohemia when discussing Moldavite’s origins.

Why is Moldavite So Expensive?
Well, it didn’t used to be. When I started selling crystals, it was pretty reasonably priced and not much sought after in the spiritual crystal world, although tektite and meteorite collectors usually had a piece in their collection. This all changed in 2021 due to a craze on TikTok with people claiming that Moldavite had radically altered their lives. This increased demand massively, and the price skyrocketed accordingly.
Moldavite: The Tik Tok Craze
In around 2021, there began a small movement within the Witchtok community on TikTok, saying that Moldavite had changed their life. The craze for Moldavite and the stories of its major and rapid impact on people's lives grew steadily until, by 2022, Moldavite was hard to come by, seriously expensive, and extensively faked. This TikTok craze still rumbles on, and Moldavite remains a much sought-after stone.
3 Tips to Identify Real Moldavite & Avoid Fakes
Due to its popularity, Moldavite has become widely faked. It is often sold to the unsuspecting in the spiritual world, and even large fake specimens are created to dupe mineral collectors.
1: Air Bubbles + Lechatelierite
Bubbles alone do not verify Moldavite. Real Moldavite and fake Moldavite are a type of glass, and both often contain small air bubbles, it must contain both bubbles and lechatelierite. Lechatelierite, when referred to in the case of Moldavite, are small internal markings of either worm-like wiggles or straight strands that are visible within the Moldavite alongside the bubbles. These can be difficult to see with the naked eye and in raw pieces where the surface is pitted. You will need to use a magnifying glass or a jeweller's loop and choose a piece of Moldavite that is cut or has a chipped piece so that you can see inside.

If you are not able to verify using the above method, then, with caution, you can also use the tips below.
2: Colour
While real Moldavite is olive-green, its shade can vary from light to dark; the fake Moldavite tends to have a slightly more vivid hue to its green colour. However, the fakers are getting the colour closer to the original as their techniques for creating these fakes improve.
3: Surface Pattern
Real Moldavite has been superheated as it plummeted through the Earth's atmosphere, creating interesting pitted surfaces. You should familiarize yourself with the surface texture of genuine, raw Moldavite before trying to do a visual verification. Fake Moldavite has a pattern etched onto its surface with acid. It can leave similar pitting but also kind of dribbles or lines.

Buyer’s Guide to Moldavite
Private Buyers
To be honest, Moldavite gives me the creeps. I find its energy too heavy for me, as I prefer more chilled vibes. I don’t own any Moldavite, so I had to borrow some samples from a friend to be able to take pictures for this page. We did, however, sell Moldavite in the shop in Amsterdam, stocking raw pieces of the tektite and pieces mounted in pendant necklaces.
If you are looking for a piece for its spiritual uses, then I would recommend buying an open-backed pendant so that it touches your skin and you can wear it all day. Make sure to take it off each night and put it in another room, or you will have some fucked up dreams. Avoid the beaded bracelets - I saw A LOT of fake ones of these coming from China, and also sold on AliExpress and Temu. These are often cheap compared to real Moldavite but can still be expensive, and I really hated being the bearer of bad news to my shop clients when they asked me to check their ‘Moldavite’ bracelets. You can use the tips above to avoid buying fake Moldavite but try to buy from trusted sources. This tektite is often faked, so you need to be sure it is genuine before you purchase it. Expect to pay at least $35 per gram for a raw piece.
NL Seller: A genuine retailer in the Netherlands is De Barnsteen Specialist. It is currently around €24.50 per gram (Feb. 2025) for raw pieces, and you can view their Moldavite selection here >>
US Seller: I have not purchased from this US vendor, but they do seem to have a very good selection of small pieces from the Czech Republic at around $35 per gram (Feb. 2025) for raw pieces. View their selection here >>

Retail Buyers
Buyer beware when it comes to buying Moldovite. You need to be on your A game when shopping for Moldavite. We used to buy from one local wholesaler from their old stash from before Moldavite became TikTok famous so the price was still reasonable. We also used to buy directly from a dealer in the Czech Republic for the jewellery pieces.
It can be hard to validate authenticity as the fakes can be good; keep in mind the tips for spotting a fake above, and if you can buy in person, then do so. Take a jeweller’s loop with you so you can check a piece for the correct inclusions. This is difficult with the raw pieces; you need to see them through a polished or sheer surface (broken piece). It can also be helpful to take a mini torch with you for this and to check the colour.
Moldavite is priced by the gram and is currently (2025) still very overpriced. If you wish to stock it, determine if your customers would prefer smaller pieces in jewellery or larger raw pieces. We always found the jewellery sold much better.
My favourite wholesaler is Brazillian Curiosa, based in The Netherlands. These guys really know what they are doing and ship internationally.
